Many states require licensed therapists to pass the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork’s exam. To be eligibile to take the exam, a candidate is required to complete 500 hours of formal training at an accredited massage therapy school or a comparable combination of massage experience and academic courses.
The exam emphasizes therapeutic massage techniques that relieve tension, strengthen immunity, augment injury recovery and increase general wellness. Further, a thorough knowledge of the medical science behind massage therapy is required artistic ability and psychological insight are also invaluable to a message therapist.
