    Aromatherapy

Scent is one of our most utilized and sustaining senses. Aromatherapy taps into this sense by using fragrant essential oils to heal and sooth, reducing stress and increasing energy. It is both an art and a science, historically used for medicinal purposes and now a professional science. Through the correct blending of aromatic and therapeutic oils, a therapist can affect an individual’s physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.

Aromatherapy is often used in conjunction with other therapeutic treatments. The combination of aromatherapy with a massage intensifies the healing power of both the essential oils and the massage therapy. Aromatherapy is believed to produce feelings of peace, calmness, and happiness; reduce anger, grief, and depression; relieve insomnia, arthritis and anxiety. The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy reminds us the 2004 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine went to two Americans for their work on the olfactory system and its odorant receptors.

Aromatherapy students will learn to blend essential oils and discover how they react to influence the emotional and physical well-being of their patients.
